Special characters encoding in Excel
Encoding UTF-8 in Excel
Special characters on the CSV files are encoded in UTF-8. When opening a CSV in many versions of Excel, sometimes these characters are not correctly decoded. Here is a quick guide on how to get around this problem.
To open the CSV file in Excel
Go to Excel and open a new workbook
Go to the Data tab and select From Text
Select the CSV file that you want to open and select Get Data
On the pop-up window, choose "Delimited" and under "File origin" select Unicode (UTF-8) from the drop-down list.
5. On the next page select "Comma" under Delimiters and click Finish
- Choose what cell you want the data to start in and that's it! You should see all your characters correctly in your Excel spreadsheet.
